About

Hi, I'm Brittany Smiley :) I started this company because I was tired of screens—and craving something slower, cozier, and more meaningful.

As a new mom, and a daughter slowly losing her own mother to dementia, I found myself holding tight to small things that carried big feelings: the sound of yarn sliding through fingers, the smell of my mom’s favorite pie in the oven, the rhythm of making something by hand. I didn’t want to lose those memories. I wanted to preserve them—and pass them on.

So I started The Kindness Company, and with it, three monthly print newspapers:
Knit Nation, Crochet Nation, and Baking Nation.

Each one is a screen-free, joy-filled experience delivered by mail—a little piece of calm in a loud world. Inside every issue, you’ll find real stories, curated patterns, meaningful projects, cozy columns, games, history, and creative inspiration that reminds you: this matters. The making. The memories. The people we learned from. The moments we share.

Grandma Ange, inspired by my mom, shows up in every issue as a quiet reminder that our crafts are not just hobbies—they're a way of remembering, connecting, and creating something real in a world that moves too fast.

These papers are for anyone who’s ever tucked away a recipe card, saved a pattern from a magazine, or picked up a project to feel a little more like themselves again.

Each issue is a small invitation to slow down, make something with your hands, and hold close the people and traditions that matter most.

We hope they bring a little bit of happiness to your mailbox each month—because that’s exactly why we’re here.

With warmth,
Brittany
